Bonga shad or Bonga. In average 25 cm long, it occurs along the coasts and in brackish water of coastal lagoons, rivers and lakes of West Africa. The population of Bongas is concentrated mainly in Senegal, the Gambia, Mauritania and Sierra Leone where they are exploited in artisanal fisheries and represent one of the major feed source for the fishmeal industry of Sierra Leone.
