Grand Cayman Thrush. This bird is endemic to Grand Cayman and found and nowhere else in the world. Common, when first described in 1886, it was already very rare by the turn of the century. The last reported sighting was in 1938, in the dense forest of East End. It has been later declared extinct. Habitat destruction through deforestation and the compounding effects of hurricane damage are regarded as being the primary causes of the loss of this unique bird.
