Rough collie. It is a breed of dog from Scotland that was known as early as the 13th century. Presumably the dogs are a mixture of native herding dogs and the animals that the Romans brought with them in the 5th century BC. The Scottish farmers used the nimble dogs mainly to herd the sheep in the raised bogs. The name “Collie” comes from the Scottish sheep breed of the same name, whose name means “cabbage sheep”. The dog quickly became known worldwide and is considered to be the ancestor of the Australian Cattle Dog and the Kelpies in Australia.
