Great Loon or Common Loon. For most people visiting Canada’s Northern Lakes, it is the icon of the north country. It is distributed throughout Canada. Like all species of loon, it migrates south in the fall. The eastern population migrates from their breeding grounds on the Inland Lakes to the warmer regions around the Gulf of Mexico, and the western ones along the Pacific coast to warmer southern regions.
