Piratica – Viking war ship. A “piratica” could carry approximately 30 men and had a high prow shaped like a dragon or a snakehead as well as a quadrangular sail. Estonia Viking period begun around 400 and ended around 1200 soon after Estonian Vikings were recorded to have sacked Sigtuna in 1187. It was not a unified country at the time, and the area of Ancient Estonia was divided among loosely allied regions. The landscape featured numerous hillforts, some later hillforts on Saaremaa heavily fortified during the Viking Age and on to the 12th century.
