Martello Tower in Le Hocq. It was the first in a series of towers built along the coast to defend Jersey against France. Le Hocq Tower was the first in a series of 30 circular towers along the island’s coastline. East of Saint Helier, it was built around 1778. The tower is conical, with a diameter of around 10.5 meters at the bottom and 8.7 meters at the top. On the bottom floor were the stores and magazines, the two upper ones served as accommodation for an officer and 8-10 soldiers. A heavy cannon stood on a platform on the roof.
