Irish Celtic Cross. It is the characteristic symbol of Celtic Christianity. Many stone crosses with a circle in its center were erected as early as the 7th century in Ireland. Its name derives from the fact that such monuments are commonly found in graveyards throughout Ireland and throughout the Irish countryside. It is also called the Eucharistic cross in Catholic circles, the circle symbolizing the Holy Host.
