Neanderthal skull. This adult skull was found in Gibraltar in 1848 with fossil remains on the site of the Forbes quarry. A contemporary of Homo sapiens, Neanderthal was neither his ancestor nor his descendant. They are two very distinct species. If the Neanderthal morphology is similar to that of Homo sapiens, there are many differences between the skeletons of the two species.
