Tu’i Malila. It is the name of a radiated tortoise from Madagascar, famous for having held the longevity record for its species until 2022. This male tortoise was offered by Captain Cook to the monarchy of Tonga when he landed in this country in 1777. It lived in the king’s palace, in Nuku’alofa, until his death on May 16, 1965. It was 188 years old.
