Xebec. This small Hispano-Arabian sailboat was typical of the Mediterranean in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The Order of the Knights of Malta reinforced its fleet to fight against the Turks and especially against the barbaresque pirates from North Africa. The xebecs made up the majority of the Order’s fleet at that time.
