Hassan II – king of Morocco from 1961 to 1999. Born in Rabat on July 9, 1929, he is the 22nd monarch of the Alawite dynasty. He ascended the throne of the country on March 3, 1961 following the death of his father, King Mohammed V. He died on July 23, 1999 and transmitted the throne to his son Mohammed VI. Descending from the prophet Mahommet, he was particularly respected in the Muslim world.
