Solar stone. This famous Aztec sculpture of the post-classical Mexica cosmogony represents a calender. With a diameter of 3m 58 and a thickness of 98 cm, it weighs about 24 tons and was made between 1502 and 1521. The Tonatiuh solar deity is represented in the center of this monolith inside the glyph of the “movement” (Nahuati), named after the current Aztec calendar period.
