Baltic cod. Genetically different to the Atlantic cod, it lives in colder waters and deeper sea regions. It is adapted to the brackish environment throughout the baltic sea. Its average weight is 5 to 12 kilograms. Cod is popular as a food with a mild flavour and a dense, flaky, white flesh. Cod livers are processed to make cod liver oil, an important source of vitamins.
