Chinthe. This half-lion / half-dragon creature is commonly found at the entrance of Buddhist stupas and temples in Burma and other Southeast Asian countries. Almost always in pairs, its function is to protect the pagoda. It is sometimes represented with a human face. It is also present on the coat of arms of Burma.
