Symbolic representation of the lotus yoga pose. Yoga is one of the six orthodox schools of Indian āstika philosophy whose goal is liberation (moksha). It is a discipline or practice common to several eras and currents, aiming, through meditation, asceticism and bodily exercises, to achieve the unification of the human being in his physical, psychic and spiritual aspects. The four major traditional paths of yoga are jnana yoga, bhakti yoga, karma yoga and raja yoga. The term yoga is commonly used today, especially in the West, to designate forms of postural yoga more or less derived from hatha yoga, and of contemporary creation.
