Tornado. It is a class of catamaran designed in 1966 by the British architect Rodney March with the aim of participating in the selection of the international model Class B organized by the World Sailing Federation (IYRU). Declared an Olympic series in 1973, it raced its first Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976. It was still in 2008 the only Olympic catamaran. 6.09 m long and 3.05 m wide, the Tornado is a particularly fast machine on an Olympic course. Composed of a fully battened mainsail with boom, jib and spinnaker, its sails represent a total area of 49 square meters.
