Sacred lotus or Indian lotus. The lotus is the sacred flower in Eastern religions (Buddhism, Brahmanism) in which the deities are depicted on a lotus flower throne. The sacred lotus is the national flower of India. It is a stoloniferous perennial herbaceous aquatic plant. The stalked leaves are peltat (shield-shaped) and entire. The petioles are 2 m or more long. The round leaf blade has a diameter of 60 cm or more.
