Sheep. Sheep farming in the Falklands began around 1764 with the arrival of French settlers. It was not until 80 years later that animal husbandry became commercial, especially for the wool industry, until around 1980 when prices fell drastically. Sheep farming nevertheless remains an important part of the culture of the inhabitants of the archipelago.
