Al-Azhar Mosque. It was founded in Cairo in 970 after the conquest of the city by the Fatimids. The building was later extended, especially during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries with the construction of minarets. It is also the headquarters of Al-Azhar University, which is today one of the oldest Islamic universities in the world still in operation.
