Bure, Fijian word for a wood-and-straw traditional hut. The structure is cooled by placing windows where there is a cross-breeze. Bures are sometimes built with whatever is on hand in the local area. The floors in bures were packed down dirt or clay covered up with handwoven mats made from the pandanus plant or coconut leaf.
