Archer. For at least 10,000 years, archery was practiced for hunting or warfare. Around 1500, the arrival of the arquebus led to a gradual disappearance of the warlike use of the bow. Archery then became a hobby and then a sport in its own right. One of the first competitions takes place in 1583, in England, with more than 3,000 participants. It was reintroduced at the Olympics in 1972.
