Viennese Waltz. The Viennese waltz was first described around 1770. It is distinguished from the French waltz and the English waltz by its large movements on the dance floor and its rapid tempo. Formerly considered indecent, the Viennese waltz has been listed as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage since September 2017. It has a long tradition and is an important element of some 450 Viennese balls.
