Giant panda. It is a species usually classified in the bear family, endemic to central China. Its diet consists of 99% plants, mainly bamboo. It lives only in central China, in mountainous regions covered with high altitude forests, in the provinces of Sichuan and Gansu, as well as in Shaanxi, between 1,000 and 4,000 meters. It is bulky and massive: it weighs 80 to 125 kg and measures 1.50 to 1.80 meters. The animal’s current Chinese name is “big cat-bear” (大熊猫).
