Snow Leopard. It is found in the valleys of the high mountains of Central Asia, Central Siberia and Altai, up to an altitude of 5,500 m. It is a medium sized feline with short legs and wide feet. Its pads covered with hair insulate it from the cold and facilitate its movement on the snow. The length of its tail, like a pendulum, allows it to maintain its balance in steep environments. Listed as part of the vulnerable species, the wild population comprises between 4,500 and 8,700 individuals.
