Cuauhtemoc (1497-1525). Last “tlatoani mexica” (Mexican-Tenochtitlan warlord), it is one of the myths of the indigenist conception of the Mexican nation and embodies resistance against the Spaniards and their Tlaxcaltan allies during the siege of Tenochtitlan. Its execution in 1525 marks the end of the dynasty founded in 1376 by Acamapichtli as well as that of the Aztec Empire.
