Traditional carved wooden totem pole from the Vanuatu archipelago (formerly New Hebrides). It was carved on the island of Ambrym, one of the 80 islands of the archipelago in the wood of tree ferns. Typical of Melanesian culture with its large eyes, its mask with round jagged edges and its human form, essential during religious festivals. This artefact is now part of a collection of totem poles on display in Port Vila on the island of Efate.
