Ice hockey player. Very popular in Finland, hockey is a Canadian sport, whose origins date back to the early 19th century. It is based on several similar sports practiced in Europe, including bandy in Scandinavia. The word hockey comes from the old French “hocquet” which meant “stick”. It is widely believed that it was the British who introduced the sport to North America.
